Mr D'Laryea
Vice Principal
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela
I am a passionate and dedicated school leader currently in the role of Vice Principal at Co-op Academy Swinton.
My journey into education began unexpectedly after an injury ended my trajectory as a professional footballer. I was fortunate enough to play professionally for Manchester City and Rochdale amongst other clubs, enjoying many fond moments that I will remember forever including playing at Wembley Stadium in front of 40,000 fans. When injury cut my professional career short, I found myself searching for a path that still allowed me to inspire, mentor, and contribute something meaningful. Working with children felt like a natural fit, giving me a new field to pour my energy, passion, and discipline into.
After receiving a First Class BA (Hons) degree at the University of Manchester, I joined the Teach First Leadership Development Programme where I successfully completed my training as a Mathematics teacher and completed my PGCE. I began my teaching career at an inner city school in Bradford, where I stayed for 2 years, before joining an inner city school in the heart of Manchester. I remained at this school for ten years, progressing from teacher of maths to head of maths and then, for my last 5 years at the school, Assistant Headteacher overseeing pupil progress and outcomes. Whilst at this school, I completed a Masters in Education and Leadership from the University of Manchester and also became a member of the Teach Manchester Mathematics core group, helping other schools in the region improve mathematics outcomes by sharing good practice. Alongside being a school leader, I continue to be an Ambassador for Teach First and their mission to end educational inequality, and have spoken on behalf of the charity at numerous events, including the Conservative party conference.
I joined Co-op Academy Swinton in September 2024, and have the great privilege of being Vice Principal at this fantastic school responsible for ensuring that the curriculum and classroom experience that students receive is of the highest calibre. At the heart of my practice is a genuine love for seeing young people grow – academically, socially, and personally. I am enjoying working with the highly skilled Senior Leadership team and dedicated staff body who have the student's best interests at heart.
