On Thursday 8th May, Year 10 students were given the fantastic opportunity to take part in an urban planning workshop. Students were given job roles linked to urban planning and then introduced to three industry professionals. The challenge given to the teams was to design and plan the regeneration of an urban area whilst considering the requirement to provide sustainable features and affordable housing. It was a pleasure to watch students work together with the industry professionals to better understand the challenge and begin to create their designs. The practical sessions were fast paced and challenged students to demonstrate work related skills such as co-operation, critical thinking and leadership. All 4 groups got the opportunity to pitch their plans to the industry professionals who then asked questions and provided feedback. All 4 groups did amazingly well, with the winning group winning an all expenses, VIP trip to London in July.
