At Co-op Academy Swinton, learning doesn't stop when the school day ends. Our extracurricular programme is a key part of The Swinton Way, helping students to grow in confidence and character. We believe that success is about more than exam results—it's about developing the whole person.

From sport, music and drama, science, creative arts and more, there’s something for everyone. These clubs and activities give our students the chance to explore new interests, discover hidden talents, and build friendships across year groups.

Whether it's picking up a new hobby, representing the academy in competitive sports, leading change through our Student Leadership Programme, or showcasing talent in our annual drama productions—our students are encouraged to get involved, be themselves, and push themselves to be their very best.

At Co-op Academy Swinton, we believe in empowering our students to lead, inspire, and shape the school community around them. Our Student Leadership Programme is a cornerstone of The Swinton Way, giving students the opportunity to develop confidence, responsibility and real-world leadership skills that will stay with them long after they leave us.

This year, we were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and calibre of applications for leadership positions:

• 84 students applied to become Prefects

• 30 students submitted letters of interest for Head Boy and Head Girl

A rigorous shortlisting and interview process followed, including panel interviews with members of our senior leadership team. The final appointments included a Head Boy and Head Girl, Deputies, and a wider team of Senior Prefects—all selected for their commitment to our values, their passion for representing their peers, and their vision for making a lasting impact on our school.

Our student leaders are role models for the entire school community. They:

• Represent student voice at key academy events

• Help shape school policy through regular meetings with staff

• Mentor younger students and support their peers

Every stage of the application—from writing personal statements to formal interviews—mirrors the real-world experience of applying for jobs or higher education. It’s a powerful part of our careers and personal development offer.

We are incredibly proud of every student who put themselves forward. The standard was exceptional, and it speaks volumes about the ambition and character of our students.

Our student leaders will also be on hand during Open Evening to assist, guide, and answer any questions from prospective students and their families.
